Using the Range Fill Feature

Range Fill lets you apply the same number of hours across a span of time for a specific project and team member in one action.

It’s helpful when you’re setting up an initial plan, repeating a predictable pattern of work, or quickly filling gaps without clicking through each cell.

Instead of entering values day by day or week by week, you specify a range and an hours value, and the system does the rest.

Range Fill speeds up resource planning by letting your write a fixed number of hours across a time period.

Where You Can Use It

Range Fill is available in both the Daily and Weekly calendars.

In the Daily calendar, it writes a fixed number of hours to each eligible day in the selected date range.

In the Weekly calendar, it writes a fixed number of hours to each eligible ISO week in the selected week range. ISO weeks follow the international standard where weeks run Monday to Sunday and Week 1 is the week that contains January 4, which keeps week numbers consistent across years.

How Range Fill Works

When you run Range Fill, the system evaluates availability before writing any hours.

  • For every day in a daily range, and for every week in a weekly range, it checks the team member’s work schedule, public holidays tied to the resource’s org unit, and any absences such as vacation or sick leave.
  • If the effective availability for a day or an entire week is zero, the system skips that period and does not write any hours.
  • You can also control whether existing values are replaced: when overwrite is on, the hours you enter replace any existing entries within the selected range; when overwrite is off, only empty cells are filled and existing values are left unchanged.

This logic prevents accidental bookings on non-working days, holidays, or during absences while giving you control over how existing plans are treated.

Using Range Fill in the Daily Calendar

Go to Project View.

Select the project and team member you want to plan.

Click on the three dots next to the team member name, and choose Fill Range:

The Range Fill feature is accessible from the resource menu.
Fill Range Option from the context menu

Verify you’ve selected the right team member and project.

Enter a start date and an end date and provide the number of hours per day to apply.

Choose whether to overwrite existing entries or only fill blanks, and confirm.

The system evaluates each day in the range, excludes non-working days, holidays, and absences, and writes your daily hours only where the resource has capacity. If a day has zero availability, it is automatically skipped.

Result: We have applied a fixed number of 4 hours per day across August:

Range Fill speeds up planning by applying a fixed single hours value across a span of time.

Non-working days were automatically skipped.

Using Range Fill in the Weekly Calendar

Go to Project View.

Select the project and team member you want to plan.

Click on the three dots next to the team member name, and choose Fill Range:

Accessing the range fill feature in the weekly calendar.
The fill range option lets you apply a specific hours value across a range of weeks.

Verify you’ve selected the right team member and project.

Enter a start week and year and an end week and year using ISO week numbers, and provide the number of hours per week to apply.

Choose your overwrite preference and confirm. The system evaluates each ISO week across the range by looking at the resource’s schedule, holidays, and absences inside that week. If the entire week’s availability sums to zero, it is skipped; otherwise, the weekly hours you provided are written.

Tip: ISO week numbers are visible in the calendar in Project View.
